For nearly a year, I'd been asking for prayer and contributions to create a 90 day devotional booklet for our Africa Gospel Church (AGC) youth. About 90% of all students in Uganda attend boarding school; it is just the cultural way. But so many don't receive encouragement from a local church if they are at boarding school. We thought that if they had a brief reading each day of their (usual) 90-day term, some might be saved, while others might grow or be encouraged in their faith. We also believe these daily entries might be used as brief Bible studies for small groups or even Sunday school classes.
The writing was completed just before Thanksgiving. I even had a wonderful volunteer to edit and re-check my typing (thanks Nancy!). So many dear people emailed entries, from Africa and across the USA! Adapting them to Ugandan culture was my job (so blame me if there are errors!), as well as writing some of the entries. Right now, they're in the printing stage- including layout and re-checking before actual printing is done. They are being printed in Uganda by our very own WGM Uganda missionary, a professional printer, Kenneth Hopson!
SO MANY people have had a hand in this process; Praise the Lord for the ways He uses to unify His body and train us all! May we all bring Him glory! Thank you all who have prayed for and contributed to this process!
Do please pray for the last steps as they are completed. Communicating long-distance with Mugisha (Youth Ministries Coordinator for the AGC) and Kenneth has been good; pray it continues!
Pray for Mugisha as he oversees the sale (at cost or less) of each booklet. It was decided that if a teen couldn't pay for the booklet, there would be a system of Bible verse memory and just a token amount paid in place of paying full-price. That means that yes, you can join in to help pay for publishing these booklets! Cost will be about $3 per booklet (I misunderstood an exchange rate earlier and had said at first they'd be $5 each; sorry!). If you would like to give towards youth ministries and specifically this project, please send your check to WGM and indicate where you would like the gift to go. If you would like to give online, click here.
Now please note, if you are asking, "Well, how many books could/should I pay for?", just remember that over HALF of Ugandans are 15 years old and younger. With just over 30 million Ugnadans, it means that 15+ MILLION teens and children might be able to use these booklets. So I don't think anyone will "outgive God" on this one. I encourage you to join with a Sunday school class, church or a group of friends and make a significant donation! Let the Lord lead you! And thank you for considering supporting this wonderful opportunity!
Lastly, our goal is to eventually have a full year's worth of devotionals, to make a 365 daily book. Our next step is to have another 90-day booklet. If you would like to contribute something God has put on your heart, I'd love to hear from you! Please contact me!
